About this Project
Village Green Restoration Inc. is proud to announce the successful completion of a four-month conservation project on the National Monument to the Forefathers in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Standing 81 feet tall and dedicated in 1889, the granite monument is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. It honors the Pilgrims and the principles of Faith, Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty.
From May through August 2025, Village Green carried out a comprehensive conservation program that included:
- Biocide cleaning and micro-abrasive blasting to remove biological growth and staining.
- Stone dutchman repairs with reclaimed Deer Isle granite to restore damaged areas.
- Marble conservation using lime-based grouts to stabilize historic reliefs.
- Repointing and installation of lead T-joints to protect against water infiltration.
- Restoration of the historic cast-iron fence surrounding the monument.
These efforts have strengthened the monument’s structure, safeguarded its artistic details, and preserved its historic integrity for future generations.
